Arriving in Nicaragua and our last few days in LA

Page under construction ......

Today we arrived in Nicaragua ... I'm a little behind in my posting so I'm going to work backwards and try and fill in the gap.

We arrived at Managua, in Nicaragua at about 1.30pm after a 2.5 hour flight from Miami, after a 4 hour stopover there, after 5 or so hour flight from LA, after a three hour wait after check-in there jeje.

We were met by some lovely brothers in a bright red pickup (ute) which was perfect as of course we're travelling with a surfboard and a couple of boogie boards.  I was a little disappointed that the brothers wouldn't let me travel on the back with the luggage but maybe next time :)

The brothers brought us to the hostel that we had booked into on the net, Central Guest House in Masaya.  It's a very simple place but suits us fine, $5 each per night, we have a fan and wifi so what else could we need? jeje  We're all a bit wasted because we left for the LAX airport last night (Sunday) at 8pm and haven't slept since, it's now 4.45pm Monday night.

The rooms are quite small (Porl can nearly touch both sides of the wall at once lol) but they do have their own bathroom which is a big plus, I think Chase was a bit shocked when he saw that there was only one tap in the shower, cold! jeje

Home sweet home, for now.

A bit like fort knox where we have to be let in and out but better safe than sorry :)

Going back in time, after a 5 or so hour flight from L.A. we arrived in Miami and spent about 3 hours in the airport before getting on the next plane to Managua.

The flight was delayed because of a broken seat and we finally got away about an hour later than expected.

Here we are leaving L.A. with our lovely brother Gus - he's been such an amazing tour guide, getting us all organized and balancing touristy things with parties, meetings, witnessing, some much needed chill-out time and all of that interspersed with lots of food - much of it prepared by his lovely wife Judith who seemed determined to finish what my mother had started and did her very best to fatten us all up as much as possible.

Top work Gus, thank you soooooo much for your awesome organizational skills and hospitality and thank you so much Judith for the loving care you gave us throughout the week.

Before leaving LA we spent a lovely final evening at Gus & Judith's, enjoying the company of some lovely brothers and sisters, all who we had just met during the week.  Some, themselves visiting, from Australia and others from LA, although originally from lots of different countries.

Oliva & Abel Gomez, Antonietta & Antonio Ciccini, Judith Bohorquez, Paul & I & Elizabeth.

During the week we also visited Santa Monica beach.

...   went out on the pier

Had a scrumptious mexican lunch, I love cerviche with octopus and a margarita to wash it all down jeje¡qué rico!

...   got serenaded

We checked out what the police are driving these days ....

Then we hit 'Pacific Park' ....

Gus tried his hand at skateboarding ....

...   while we just had to do the rollercoaster!

We caught up with this kewl dude ...

and then the boys got to have a skate alongside Santa Monica beach ....

Judith even had a go at skating ....

By the time we headed back to the car it was getting dark and we got to enjoy the beautiful sunset ...

Gus & Judith Bohorquez

Kieran kicked it with a couple of locals doing some skate tricks, jumping over a rubbish drum until the police turned up ...

...  we were serenaded by a passing sax player, only in America surely, lol  ....

...   the boys tried their hand at some swings and flips at a pretty awesome exercise park ...

  1. The good thing was that Paul did not had to hit his head on the ceiling! (inside joke).
