Bluefields No 2

So where were we?  That's right, in the middle of our Bluefields trip.

Downtown Bluefields.

As I mentioned every house seems to have some kind of rocking chair.

Some houses have quite a collection.

We took a walk through the local fish and meat market.

Bluefields is known for its prawns and lobsters.  We also found a restaurant where you could have a delicious lobster and seafood  spaghetti for about $6.  Everything wasn't really green, it was just the green paint on the walls

Shucking prawns by the hundred, such fun!

It's not easy to see but in a gap between two buildings, being washed over by the sea
were these two poor pigs waiting to be slaughtered :(  Pobrecitos.

Part of the market looks like it's getting a touchup.
How do you like the look of that worksite Dad?

We had torrential rain nearly non-stop the whole time that we were there so the lagoon was very muddy.

We watched the women making tortillas by hand, ready to sell at their street stall.

There's not actually a lot to do in Bluefields but we found a little museum to visit which was quite interesting.    We got rather drenched getting there but it was worth it.  After all you can only stay inside for so long!

I loved listening to the English that the people speak there so I asked the girl at the museum to tell us about one of the pieces of art while I videoed her which she graciously did.

David and Katy had the cutest grandson that came to visit most days, he's learning his colours and he's sooooo cute.

Katy is a great cook and taught me how to make the most delicious nacatamales ever!

Just shows you don't need all the mod-cons to turn out delicious food.  After two and a half hours boiling over charcoal the tamales were ready but they smelt so good and tasted so good that I forgot to take a picture of the finished product so you'll just have to believe me that they turned out great!

I also caught up with Johana and went on some studies with her although we had to dodge the downpours.

And then Porl gave the public talk on Sunday.
The audience had to try to understand not only a kiwi accent but to hear him over the pelting rain.  It was hard enough when there was power but then the power went out half way through so he did very well finishing up.

Then on our last night we wanted to do something for David and Katy so Kieran showed them how to make pizza kiwi style.

Porl gave a helping hand.  You have to watch him, he can get quite vicious with the paparazzi.

David was intrigued that we put cheese on the top of the pizza as well as the bottom.
That's what you get when you live in an agricultural country I suppose.  Although we probably shouldn't be mentioning milk products this week :(

It turned out pretty well ...

... and was delicious.

And then it was time to bid farewell to our lovely hosts and head off to Pearl Lagoon (Laguna de Perlas) - but that's a whole 'nother post!
